Some pics that developed from the crappy disposable Kodak.
So here's the new year. I guess I should come up with some resolutions and whatnot before my window of opportunity closes.
- clean my room (I don't mean everyday, or even today. Just eventually. Before the year ends is preferred.)
- scrapbook more - I plan on taking a picture of myself everyday --and yes, I know it's been done before
- go camping (a thought four years in the making)
- learn to cook (because deep down inside, I long to be a domesticated house wife)
- get a new camera
- get my AA, woohoo
I checked 4chan for the first time in two weeks and stumbled across an Anime South thread in /cgl/. Awesomely enough, people have posted pics of Artemis, Pyramid Head, and Four swords.
Last Saturday, I asked my mom if I could stay a day at the beach house the Momany/Sammons' were renting out for the week and --to my complete surprise-- she said yes. Funny though, she totally thought I was to stay for two weeks though I had only planned on staying Saturday night. Whatever. Besides the usual nine in the MS clan, Mike's Uncle Doug, Aunt Jessica, his grandparents, the Sammons grandparents, and Jamar were lodging at the house as well. (Jamar's parents are in Qatar selling weapons, wtf)
Highlights of the trip
- Mike, Andrew, and I saw a cosmic phenomenon (a boob in the sky)
- that same night, we stole some bikes from a repair shop and explored The Village
- Mike tried to teach me to surf
- Kyle got Heroscape for Christmas
- the party ends up dropping $100+ on Heroscape related products
- Mike, Jamar, and I like Heroscape more than Kyle does
- I go to work at 5am D:<
- I learn more about Jamar than I ever wanted to know
- Andrew confesses he'd go gay for Starbucks
On a sidenote, let's see how crappy my old old old camera is.With 3.2 megapixels! Yeah!
So much has happened.
Just got back from Fag Fest '07. Marc, the owner of Anime Florida, conned me into volunteer work for Anime South in San Destin in exchange for free board, meals, registration, and possibly BtVS season six. I opposed the idea at first telling Marc that I would much rather spend my free time away from everyone I had ever hated in high school but a free box set is pretty sweet. Anywho, after a 10.5 hour day at work from 5am Friday (where I almost broke my freaking nose), I head over to the Hilton only to be greeted by way too many fat chicks in cat ears and way too many pasty girl Sailor Scouts. Luckily (and completely unexpected), Chad G was there working as well which was pretty much my saving grace. Don't get me wrong, I like anime and all but I know my limits. I would never consider myself "otaku" and would never want to. I will never don a Naruto headband, and I will never make a DBZ amv. I think my love for Pocky is pretty tame and I have never felt the need to watch tentacle rape porn. Anyway, my first job was the library which meant I had to sit in the hotel board room while people checked out manga. It was pretty dead other than Chase who fell asleep mid-book. Chad and James W took pictures with his sleeping body. Chase woke up and was a good sport about it so that was cool. The con had events going on 24/7 which was pretty hectic for all the staff but I did manage to watch Battle Royale the movie at midnight which was my main objective so thumbs up for that. I'm a little bummed I didn't make it for speed dating (the groups were divvied by age-- 16-23, 24-35, 36-45, and 46-59 D:). Chad got kicked out from the Friday speed dating for dancing on a girl. Hilarious. I spent most of today guarding the exclusive guest dinner silently making fun of all the people who spent way too much money to eat with totally obscure people. I did feel sorry for this one guy. He was the first to arrive and the last to leave. He was super nervous too and was all in his Sunday best. God, I hope he at least got an autograph or something. Sitting in an uncomfortable chair for two and and half hours watching people eat a delicious four course meal is pretty unpleasant. Good for me one of the hotel bellman guys totally gave me a honking slice of cheesecake. I was delighted. Oh also lollollol, I was asked to the dance four times. Three times from the same guy but whatever. I really considered going to the dance (it's said to be an all-out, no holds barred rave) since it's been so long since I've actually been to one but after thinking about all the kids that would be there and the song selection (I'm sure they'll be playing that damned Numa Numa song) I quickly declined.
As far as costumes go, the majority were pretty bad which was expected. It isn't a con without a fat Cammy! There were lots of Naruto kids, two huge Rinis, some hot black school girls, and a pyramid head couple. Of the more notable ones, I did happen to get a shot of a guy dressed as a furry Artemis, a group for Four Swords Adventures, a ten year old Lulu wtf, and a cat/school girl trap. Unfortunately, my camera broke over the break before I got to the con but I did manage to take a crap load of pics with my phone. It is still uncertain whether or not I'll have the patience to upload them all or not.
As sad as it sounds, I think I'd like to help out with the con again next year. It was an okay experience. The best part about the whole thing would probably have to be the fact that the hotel was also booked for a basketball tournament and a cheerleading championship. What a funny mix of black guys, white girls, and otaku fags.
PS: Look forward to my Christmas/beach house update!
Fun fact: some seventeen year old boy stepped on a nail or something by the hotel pool and is suing the Hilton. The hotel bumped up his room to a suite, offered to make his next Hilton stay complimentary, and gave him free room service. That kid will totally be set for life.
